“ I’m in love with cities I’ve never been to and people I’ve never met.”
– John Green.
While solo travelling might sound appealing for some, to me travelling with the ones you love is one of the best things in the WORLD. Whether it’s to get away from work or your everyday life, every girl out there needs a trip with their girl pals every now and then. Gossip, bottomless popcorn, multiple pj parties, count me in! It’s like an everyday sleepover!
You create the best memories while travelling, combining that with friends it’s just incredible. So I’ve put together a list of my top 5 destinations for the best ‘girls only trip’, which each have something for everyone in the group, from the beach to mountains, culture overload to gastronomy express.
Here are some of the best girlfriend getaways!
LONDON, United Kingdom
London is where I live but is also the first place I’ve traveled to with friends when before I went to University. I fell in love with it the day I arrived and to this day I still love it to bits. London has it all, it can be really quiet in some areas but loud at the same time in others. From west end musicals to street performers, there’s always something happening in London whether it’s a Tuesday or a Sunday.
The city is so picturesque that you can spend hours just walking around with your friends. Stop in one of the parks (ie: Green Park or Hyde Park) and have a lil picnic or even just a drink by one of the lakes. Have a nice afternoon tea in a Hotel if you wanna splurge or even have a little shopping spree in Oxford Street.
Any Harry Potter fans?! Take a trip to Warner Bros Studios in London and visit the ” Making of Harry Potter “. On a budget? No problem there too, hop on the tube and get out I Kings Cross Station and there you’ll find Platform 9 ¾. Leadenhall Market was used as Diagon Alley in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, so make sure to visit too.
Girls night in or girls night out? In London, boo you wanna have a girls night out. Catch a show, London has loads and loads of musicals for you to watch at much cheaper prices than US Broadway. Take a look at Time Out’s top 10 West End shows to see what’s on at the moment.
Bali is possibly one of my favorite places on Earth. This little Indonesian island has so much to offer that once you’re there… believe you me, you’ll never wanna leave. So grab your girl squad, bikinis, and your camera ’cause you’re in for a treat.
From the beautiful beaches, culture, the amazing inhabitants, wildlife, gastronomy, nature, sightseeing and so much more, Bali is that holiday that ticks all the boxes. There’s something for everyone, whether you are a water bug, a Spa sloth or an adventure seeker kind of gal, I’m sure you’ll fill something that which one you will love.
Bali is also a great place for any kind of budget, compared to a lot of places in the World, Spas are quite cheap so you can treat yourself to a luxury day for about 45 £. Hotels are also quite cheap, however, if you’re tight on money you can always look at Guesthouse, hostels or Airbnb which are more affordable.
If you have animal lovers and environmentally conscious friends in the group, be sure to visit a Conservation center or a Sanctuary. It’s just an unbelievable experience. Be sure to do your research beforehand.
Save time to hop on a fast boat and visit the Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and the Gili Islands. They were a staple on our girls trip, you can scuba dive, snorkel, swim with the turtles, have fun every single night and enjoy nature to its fullest.
I’ve been to Barcelona a couple of times, once with my parents and a second time with a group of friends. So, I guess I could say that I can express my opinion about this cool European city. Barcelona has a vibrant culture and there is a lot to do and see, so like other cities, I’ve talked about it has something for everyone in the group to enjoy.
Barcelona on the flip side is quite an expensive city. From Hotels to food, but I guess prices have been on the rise for the past couple of years everywhere in Europe. This time around with friends, we were on a budget, therefore, we stayed I Hostels. I must say the choice is huge when it comes to hostels and there are some good ones out there.
On your girls getaway, you should at least get a full day of sightseeing because there’s so much greatness to be aware and learn about in Barcelona. Take an afternoon the explore the Gothic district, stop by El Bosc De Les Fades for a cocktail or even a cup of coffee. Trust me it is totally worth it, I won’t spoil it for you by posting pictures of the indoors ’cause you gotta experience it.
Be sure to go early to Park Guell, it is such a beautiful place for a girlfriends photoshoot. It is a colorful masterpiece as well as a park, there’s a little coffee shop inside so you can enjoy a nice espresso coffee outside.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro is a beautiful city with so much to offer. Did you know that Rio itself attracts over 1 million of tourists every single year? That just goes to show how wonderful Rio is and that you should totally put it on your bucket list. If you and your girls are in much need of a tropical holiday, Rio is the place for you guys. It combines the coolest trendiest beaches, breathtaking nature, museums, some of the happiest people on earth.
Now if you’re a gal like me that much prefers untouched beaches, villages then be sure to get on a coach and travel to Arraial do Cabo. Arraial do Cabo is a coastal town in the state of Rio, the beaches are so pure and beautiful. I got to experience scuba diving for the first time here, and I couldn’t have chosen a better place for it.
Didn’t get to go to Rio’s Carnival, however, if you can travel around February that is probably the coolest yet busiest times to go.
Be sure to add a hike to your trip, get that cardio in girl! It was one of the best things I did over there too, we hiked up a forest to get to see Pedra Bonita and it was honestly one of the best experiences of my life. Just breathtaking!
Everybody has a top 5 when it comes to cities they’ve loved visiting. Well at least I have, and Budapest is sitting comfortably at number 5 on my faves. It has it all, the spas, the culture, the food, the architecture, and its great history.
There’s more to this city than big impressive tourist attractions, be sure to go visit local cafes, restaurants and get the full Hungarian experience. Budapest has so many hidden cafés, ruin-pubs, non-touristy streets, the old buildings. Try the food, mix in with the locals. I know its a girly-girl trip, but I assure you one of you is a history junky, so be sure to tag along to the 7th district also known as the Jewish quarter, pay attention to the streets, the buildings, they’re full of history.
Try the Szechenyi Spa with your friends, take advantage of the thermal waters, be like the Romans. The architecture is gorgeous and it is located within a park, the water in this Spa is the actually the hottest in the city, it is high in calcium, magnesium and hydrogen carbonate which by the way is great for joint pain, arthritis, blood circulation and disorders of the nervous system. Yup, the nurse in me made an appearance! lol
I’ve stated that food is good there, which is true. Be sure to visit Market Hall for a quick lunch or snack, you can get pretty much everything over there. From fruit, groceries, sweets and full-on meal. One thing you guy MUST try is for sure the chimney cake, oh my goodness!
The list I’ve compiled is based on my personal experience, unfortunately, I haven’t been able to travel the whole world as yet. There are loads of other places across all continents that are for sure great for a girls trip, some of the places I personally think would be great but I’m yet to visit will be listed below.
Miami, United States of America
St. Lucia, Caribbean Sea
